The hikers among you will be thrilled to know that the possibilities for hiking are truly endless. Our favorite trail however is to the top of Pico Ruivo in Madeira. This is the highest peak on the island and there are two paths to the top – the regular one is suitable for the more experienced hikers. Nevertheless, the “easier” path, the one which starts from Achada, will also need some of your effort.
Castelejo Trail is another hiking path, which provides a more laid back experience. It follows the coastline and the steep cliffs, through secluded beaches and small hidden bays. Lavender, thyme and wild strawberries with their irresistible scent will follow you on your way!
The capital, Lisbon, also offers plenty of possibilities for a fun day of activities. If you are travelling with children, head to the Ocean Aquarium to learn more about marine life in the Atlantic. Dolphin watching is another amazing activity to try – the boats depart from the Port of Lisbon on a regular schedule. Otherwise, if you choose to spend a day at the beach, you can try scuba diving and snorkeling, as well as horseback riding options.
