This completely renovated quinta, a Portuguese term for (wine) farm, is idyllically situated on a terrace, surrounded by flowery gardens with olives and a stone's throw from the river. With its many rooms, the nature house is very suitable for larger travel groups of up to eight people. The surrounding land is 3 hectares and consists mainly of olive groves where there are also some other cottages. On and around the property is ample opportunity for rest and entertainment: a hammock among the olive trees, the bank of the Rio do Mondego for cooling, suitable for swimming. This oasis of peace in the protected natural area of Serra da Estrela offers the opportunity to enjoy to the fullest in a beautiful landscape. The area is not only great for hiking enthusiasts; there is also much to do for swimmers, bon vivants and doers.
Nature and surroundings
The Serra da Estrela Natural Park is the largest protected area in Portugal and is located in the central massive mountain region, on a plateau that slopes slightly to the northeast. The mountains here are separated by river valleys. Among others, the Mondego and Zêzere rivers originate here. The quinta is located on the Caminho de Santiago pilgrimage route. The breathtaking small-scale cultural landscape alternates with vistas and rugged nature in the valley of the Mondego. For the experienced hiker there is the trek to the top of the Tentinolho (950 meters) from the nature house. The less experienced hiker can walk from the farmhouse, parallel to the Rio do Mondego river, through the valley to the Mizarella and Pero Soares. We advise you to come by car because the farm is remote. The nearest supermarket is 25 min drive. Don't have a car? Then take the cab that will drop you off at the traffic circle near the quinta. From there it is a 10 min walk.
