Algarve winter holidays

Nowadays, it is important to take your time and relieve yourself of the stress that is being piled up each day from our repetitive routines. The best way to do that is to start traveling, which will help you find out what you genuinely enjoy, and the key to happiness for most is doing what you enjoy. Algarve is a very good place to start, especially during the winter - Take the week off, or even the weekend and discover the beautiful Portuguese region of Algarve and enjoy your favorite activities all while relaxing and getting rid of the stress.

Astonishing Portuguese region

The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal, which provides a lot of variation when it comes to the destination you want to visit. Algarve borders the Atlantic ocean - a perfect spot for holidays on the beach, even during the winter. Additionally, Algarve shares a border with the Guadiana river - another cozy spot for a wintery retreat within the local forests. Finally, Algarve borders a series of mountain ranges - a great idea for a cozy cottage, surrounded by the snowy mountain hills. This just is an example of the variations this region offers- whether you are at the beach, riverside, or mountains, Algarve offers it all - magnificent long beaches and a low coast, mountain hiking opportunities with astonishing views, or relaxing forest fairy tale in a home surrounded by nature.

Algarve is separated into three regions - the coast, central Algarve, and the mountain area in the north of the Algarve. The coast (Litoral) is a blooming sub-region with a lot of marine life and coastal landscapes. Such a rich and diverse space, with beaches, cliffs, mouths and marshes and dune systems. This coastline is home to ecosystems such as the coralline in rocky substrates, or seagrass meadows in the more sandy region. These conditions make the perfect place for bird nesting or a parking spot for marine mammals looking for some rest.

Another sub-region is the central Algarve (Barrocal). Barrocal is the area between the coast and the mountains. It consists of plains and hills, which are formed by clay and limestone. It is a big part of the Algarve region and its most remarkable feature is the red ground, which is the result of the limestone and clay mixed in the dirt. It is a big and wide, sometimes agricultural land, that makes for great hikes.

Finally, we have the mountains and riverside (Serra). Serra is home to Monchique - a very popular mountain region that is known for its beautiful hiking routes with astonishing landscapes. There you can find the highest point in Algarve - Foia, which is 902 meters high. Additionally, in Serra you can find the Serra de Espinhaço de Cão and Serra do Caldeirão mountain ranges.

Activities during the winter

Of course, during the winter there are more activities, due to the snowy mountainside - you can enjoy all of your favorite winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. Additionally, you can go hiking along the coastline or in the wide Barrocal. Finally, you may go explore the wildlife and various flora and fauna, cultivated plants, and local agricultural shrubs.
