The nature house consists of two attached houses and is located in the middle of the mountains of Monchique, a protected nature reserve. The house was completely renovated in 1994 in Portuguese style.The environment is overwhelming and the only neighbors you have is the original nature where you can relax. For hikers and nature lovers this is a unique region. From the nature house you overlook the cork oak trees belonging to the plot and enjoy the beautiful large garden overlooking vast valleys. In the distance you can see Mount Picota (774 meters). The west coast can be reached within 40 minutes, the south coast within 30 minutes. The distance from the access road to the house is about 500 meters, unpaved but wide and with two concrete lanes, the first part of which is quite steep. Arriving at the house you will be surprised. All Dutch channels can be received on the television.
Nature and surroundings
In the Serra de Monchique between the mountains Foia (903 meters) and Picota (774 meters) lies the village of Monchique. The nature house is located at a distance of about 5 kilometers from Monchique. Nature is still in its original state: eucalyptus trees, old cork oak and chestnut trees interspersed with the famous medronho bush, the so-called wild strawberry from which the Portuguese make liquor, and especially the numerous cultivated terraces, are real eye-catchers. The protected nature reserve offers many opportunities for hikers such as on Mount Picota, here are hiking trails marked. From Monchique, a visit to Mount Foia, about eight kilometers away, is a must: a fantastic view with cafes and a gallery with art handicrafts made by people from the area. The west coast with beautiful but originally preserved seaside resorts is in any case a must, 40 minutes from this cottage where you can then enjoy nature and tranquility!
