Easter holiday in Finland

Of all the seasons occurring in Finland, spring is the shortest and the most versatile one per area. In the south, it is likely you will still be confronted with snow in April, with a few flowers trying to poke through. In the north, you can still ski and it remains cold for the longest period of time. Most of the time, spring will start around may and the ice will finally melt. So, if you are planning on spending your next easter holiday in Finland, make sure to bring some warm clothes and prepare for an egg hunt in the snow.

Finnish landscapes

One of the easiest words to use when describing the Finnish landscapes is perhaps the word contrast. This is mainly because, between the seasons, the country changes. For example, the lake where you ice skate on in winter is perfect for swimming in summer. With your trip to Finland, water is never far with its many rivers, islands, and bogs. In winter, the days are dark and everything is frozen and covered in snow, however in summer you can experience the midnight sun and the temperatures are actually quite warm. Furthermore, around 70% of the country is covered in forests, which makes it Europe’s most forested country.

With its stunning landscapes there sure is no lack of national parks to visit in Finland. Scattered around the country, you can find 40 national parks consisting of lakes, forest, fells, archipelagos, and valleys. In Finland you can find animals that you cannot see in many European countries. Think of bears, wolves, wolverine seals, reindeer, eagles, and different kinds of owls. The north of Finland lies partly above the Arctic Circle and is part of Lapland. The forests here are thinner than in the south of Finland and the temperatures are the coldest of the country.

Enjoy the Finnish nature

In the north, in Lapland, spring still means skiing while in the south, in Helsinki, they are already preparing for summer, enjoying the parks filled with lush green grass and blooming flowers. So, it is safe to say that your location greatly varies your spring experience in Finland. Another interesting thing about Finland is that two third of the birds are migratory and as the sea is melting more and more birds will return, creating a bird watcher’s paradise.

Your cottage

For those who love the peace and quiet, spring in Finland is a great time to reside in a cottage. The flowers are starting to bloom and the sun shines over the lakes. The water is still cold but if you are brave you could go for a swim and afterwards you can enjoy the sauna or jacuzzi by your cabin. With our cottages in Finland, your easter holiday in nature is guaranteed.
