On the border of the Dordogne is the medieval village of Ayen-Bas. In 2001 this ruin of a 13th century Abbey, with a stone spiral staircase from the 16th century was bought by a Dutch couple and over the years over 500 m² has been restored. The nature house is quietly located and has all the luxuries you could want. Even in early spring or fall, the heated saltwater pool in the garden and the ¨hot tub¨ on the private terrace provide ultimate relaxation.The 16th century tower has a fully equipped dining kitchen on the ground floor. On the second floor is the spacious romantic master bedroom with a king-size bed (220x210cm), stand-alone bath, fireplace and balcony where a French breakfast in the morning sun is truly divine. A little further up you will find additional bathroom and a large attic room where there is a queen-size bed, and two twin beds. In the ridge of the tower is a secret tower room for a prince or princess with single bed, always an exciting place for children. All beds are at least 200 cm long. The Abbey's dining room/living room (100 m²) has a large restored 13th century fireplace with chimney, a carefully put together library (also for children) and a large dining table with chairs, The Størvatt where six people can enjoy a bath is on the (private) terrace.

The area around the nature house is known for its beautiful hiking and is not far from the Dordogne and Vézère rivers where you can canoe. The crowds in the high season of the Dordogne are not noticeable and it is mainly a place to unwind and find a quiet pace (again). There are prehistoric caves of the Vézère valley and of course the caves of Tourtoirac, Lascaux or Villars. There are also several VTT routes around the Abbey. 10 minutes away is the La Tuiliere Arboretum with more than 1500 different trees and shrubs.
