Sleeping up to four, This nature house is a characterful 16th-century Norman boulangerie built from local granite. Thick stone walls and old oak beams make it cosy in winter and pleasantly cool in summer. At its heart, the huge granite chimney breast is a striking reminder of the building’s history. It now houses a modern Jøtul wood-burning stove, making low-season and Christmas stays particularly inviting. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, with a dishwasher and full-size oven and hob. The main bedroom is on an unusual mezzanine, looking across to the magnificent chimney breast. It is reached through a door from the landing, ensuring complete privacy. The second bedroom can be arranged as two singles or a king-size bed. The ground-floor bathroom has a shower and washing machine. Guests can enjoy mature gardens, herbs, vegetables and orchard, plus a secluded deck by the door with a parasol and dining set for four. A BBQ, sun loungers, highchair and cot are available.
Nature and surroundings
this nature house is situated about 10km the historic town of Vire, in the heart of Normandy’s green Bocage countryside. It is a calm, peaceful place, where the main sounds are birds, bees and our three ponies. The gardens, vegetable plot and orchard offer herbs, fruit and vegetables, with apple and pear blossom in spring and fruit in autumn. The area is well suited to walking, painting and birdwatching, and is particularly popular with adults seeking a relaxing rural break. Nearby, you will find excellent restaurants and markets full of fresh local produce, including cider, Calvados, cheese, butter and cream. Mont-Saint-Michel and the D-Day landing beaches are each around an hour’s drive away. Having lived here for many years, Sue and Ian offer a warm welcome and plenty of local knowledge. Le Pressoir can also be booked with its sister cottage, Le Pressoir.
