This nature house is an attractive 2 person (studio) gite, located in the Normandy bocage countryside in Calvados. The gite is an ideal starting point for wonderful walks, bike rides and sightseeing tours. The gite is part of a traditional longère. Your private entrance adjoins the balcony with a fantastic unobstructed view of the countryside with breathtaking skies. The studio has been lovingly and tastefully decorated with brocant furniture and art. You have access to a luxury bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen. Our hectare-sized grounds with wild plants and waterhole, includes an organic (vegetable) garden in permaculture and a food forest that you can use. We pursue self-sufficiency and biodiversity (circular wastewater system) and are happy to let you enjoy that. You will be a guest in a quiet hillside setting with two extraordinary people. Creative, critical, environmentally aware, building a bright future. That is what we like to share with you.
Nature and surroundings
You will relax in an area not (yet) discovered by tourists. Right behind the gite you walk straight onto a forest path where you have a view of 'Les Collines Normandes'. There are varied walking and cycling routes on winding roads, through forests, past castles and small villages. It is beautiful and peaceful in all seasons. A 20-minute drive away is the town of Vire with all amenities. Mont St. Michel is an hour's drive, as are the endless beaches of Lower Normandy. We border Suisse Normandie with Mont Pinçon, rock formations or canoe trips on the Orne. You can visit historic cities such as Caen, Bayeux, Granville and Falaise. Further afield are the invasion beaches. In the summer months, you can visit many cultural events and numerous local markets and vide greniers. Discover the Norman specialties. Once home, from the balcony of the gite you can dream away about the Viking environment. Enjoying the peace and quiet and looking out over the Bocage. Welcome to Vie de la Saffrie.
