Welcome to Cañar, the balcony of La Alpujarra. In clear weather you can see Africa (the Rif mountains in Morocco) hence the village's Mirador de Africa. The cottage is located on the outskirts of the village on the GR7 hiking trail between Lanjaron (the wellness and water city) and Soportujar. Our cottage has all modern amenities, kitchenware and the estate has olive trees, fig trees,.... You may pick and eat, of course! In spring the grounds are full of flowers. We have a reservoir where you can swim in the spring water that is refreshed every 5 days. The water enters our basin through the irrigation canals built by the Moors over a thousand years ago (UNESCO World Heritage Site). You cannot get to the cottage by car, but you can always park for free in one of the two parking lots in the village. From the village it is an 8-minute walk to the cottage. Since no cars can reach the house, the nature house is an oasis of peace and quiet.
Nature and surroundings
You are in the middle of nature literally on a hiking trail (at 1100 meters altitude: cooler nights!) and so can hike or bike to your heart's content. La Alpujarra is traditional, open and free. Its inhabitants are a mix of locals and natives from different countries. The closest town (5000 inhabitants) is Orgiva and has more than 80 nationalities. Whether you are vegan, vegetarian or omnivore, you can find everything here. There are a lot of spiritual communities in the area and besides excursions in nature, visits to the white villages around (e.g. the cute Pampaneira!), you can also visit a Tibetan monastery. Granada and the Alhambra are an hour away, and the coastal villages can also be found less than an hour away. Malaga, in turn, is an hour and a half away. In the village itself there is the cozy Bar Piki and Restaurant Los Angeles. Enjoy the silence, the views, the birds, the trees, the mountains, the village and its open and relaxed inhabitants.
