Nature house in Montbray
Normandy, France

Located in orchards opposite the church of St Martin de Montbray in rural Normandy, I have restored La Calècherie with respect for character using traditional methods and environmentally friendly materials. The furniture is antique and vintage and the beds are 150 cm (king or queen size, depending on where you are from), reupholstered and upholstered by my partner Donna. La Calècherie has on the first floor a farmhouse kitchen, a snug and a separate dining room with access to the garden. Upstairs there are 2 suites; The Plantagenet suite (so called because the original corbeille bed came from a scion of the family) consists of a bedroom, bathroom with antique saracen bath and separate WC and The Empire suite that consists of a bedroom with en-suite shower room with WC.
Nature and surroundings
The nature house is in orchards where I am replanting lost cider apple trees (we make around 1,000 litres a year) and where resides our family of rescue goats. All maintenance in the gardens and orchards is organic with minimal use of machinery. There is a wide range of wildlife in the gardens and orchards that are a haven for wildlife - and providing varied habitat to encourage biodiversity is very important.

The house was great. It was a bit too hot to really do anything, and you have to plan your grocery shopping wisely.
The house was located far from the N-road in a small parish village. It’s a fully renovated traditional Norman house, nestled in the middle of a large apple orchard. The beds were wonderful (I think those French bolster pillows are ideal!). The rooms are more than spacious, and combined with the tranquility of the countryside and the comfortable beds, we slept wonderfully. The plant-filled bathroom was gorgeous! The house is comfortable but decorated in a very original style: three nights were actually too short to admire all the fun, eye-catching, beautiful, and surprising artifacts in this museum. The interior designer clearly loves clocks (and several of them are running on time and chime), and the lamps also radiate originality: many of them are either originals or his own creations. Paintings, wall decorations, etc., etc. Everything seems to have been carefully considered, and everything catches the eye. Even the coffee filter holder has been stripped of its dullness with a relief design. In the garden, we closely followed the shadows of the apple trees. Even after the sun disappeared behind the trees, it remained wonderfully pleasant for a long time.

A very nice house; the host was very kind and generous—we received a welcome gift of wine, bread, and jam, and were even treated to some apple cider during our stay. The house itself could be a little cleaner, which is why I’m giving it only 9 points. The surroundings are beautiful, and the people are friendly and helpful. Few tourists—I highly recommend it.
Located in a very quiet spot in a small village. Lots of birdsong and nature.
Sehr ruhig gelegen in einem kleinem Dorf. Viel Vogelgezwitscher und Natur.
