Our vacation home is a manor house from the Middle Ages that belonged to the famous abbey of Maillezais. The house is located in the village of Liez (85420) in the South of Vendee, in the beautiful nature reserve Le Marais Poitevin. The large garden (1.5 ha) borders a small river; Kayaks, boats and bikes for rent in the nearby area. There is a table tennis table, hammocks, soccer goals, bocce ball sets and a dartboard. There is also a large Weber BBQ available and several poolside beds, loungers and umbrellas. There are three large and three small bedrooms in the house, all with their own (old-fashioned but functioning) small bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Of the six bedrooms, four have double beds and two have twin beds side by side. All rooms have new beds, a fan and wooden shutters against the sun. The house is very cool in the summer. Separate from the main house is a separate cottage with bedroom, sitting room/kitchenette and bathroom.

Maillezais 3 km away, has a bakery, butcher, supermarket and several restaurants. The beach at La Rochelle is a 50-minute drive away and Nantes airport 5 quarters of an hour. In Niort, a nice city 25 minutes away, there is a TGV station from where it is only 2 hours by train to Paris. From Utrecht, Liez is 900 kilometers away.
