For ten years we went on vacation every year to Sierra Nevada in Andalusia. Friends of ours had a cottage there that they rented out. When they announced they were moving in 2005, we had fallen so in love with this area of Andalusia that we immediately decided to look for something for ourselves. Not long after that we found "The Balsa," an abandoned goat barn that after six years of (re)building we transformed into our own vacation farm in southern Spain. The Balsa is not a luxury villa. Our pool is in the village and we share it with the other locals, but we have the Balsa (basin 100 meters away) for swimming and, of course, hot and cold running water, showers, toilets, refrigerators, a freezer and a washing and dishwashing machine.

La Balsa is located at 1200 meters altitude in a beautiful hiking area at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Here you can still enjoy peace and absolute silence and clean air in a beautiful mountain landscape far away from mass tourism. The farmhouse is within walking distance of two authentic Spanish villages where you will find a large public swimming pool, a supermarket and several bars and restaurants. From our farm you can walk, bike or horse ride into the Sierra Nevada and with our hiking booklet you can make the most beautiful walks. On the ground floor we have an apartment, consisting of a bedroom with double bed, an extra bed in the living room, a private bathroom with toilet and shower, an open kitchen and a wood stove. Linen is included. On the second floor there are 5 rooms, two of which are en suite, all with private entrance and terrace. These can accommodate between 13 and 16 guests.
