At an altitude of 860 meters in the Serra de Cabreira with beautiful, wide views you will find this small-scale, ecological vacation park surrounded by wonderful nature with countless hiking opportunities. This nature house is designed and built for the ultimate nature experience with a very large verranda and a panoramic view over the valley. Ideal for the bird watcher, insect connoisseur, hiker or peace seeker. The five-acre property is grazed by a small herd of donkeys and two horses that regularly come to take a curious look. The herd is guarded by two beautiful Portuguese mountain dogs who will also accompany you on a walk if you wish. The pool is filled with clear, fresh mountain water that always flows and thus remains drinkable for the animals. The cottage is built of thick round logs, is insulated with hemp and has a very pleasant indoor climate. The high ceiling of four meters and the large windows make it feel very spacious. The furnishings are simple but complete, the bathroom is spacious with a walk-in shower. In the hosts' cozy farmhouse there is a large collection of books, a telescope and microscope.
Nature and surroundings
The Serra de Cabreira (mountains of the goat herder) is characterized by its beautiful nature, but also by its inhabitants who are still as authentic as the granite villages and the countless granite pile walls that surround the pastures. Here you will find only the shepherds with their goats and sheep or a herd of up to 12 cows. People here live almost entirely self-sufficiently with their own vegetable garden, chickens, firewood, water, honey, etcetera. People are still moving away from the mountains to the city, so nature is increasingly taking over. In addition to the herds of wild horses (Gerano), the Ibiriche wolf has been prominent for several years now, and in 2018 the griffon vulture also returned. The area is now so sparsely populated that you won't meet anyone on a hike and won't have to share the natural swimming spots with anyone. Following this, we find the Peneda de Geres National Park which has slightly higher peaks and is a bit more jagged. Here, to date, a population of 360 wolves resides.
