This nature house no longer operates as a mill because the river was once diverted. The millstone is still in the backyard. The nature house is located in the hamlet of La Colombe, right between Lignac and Tilly. In addition to the mill, the hamlet has a restored abbey inhabited by an English couple, a farmhouse, a weekend home of a French family and a dilapidated abandoned house. The cottage has a huge fenced garden consisting of three parts. In the backyard runs a shallow stream. The downstairs bedrooms have small electric heaters and electric blankets for early and late season, if needed. The bathroom has a heating lamp. The kitchen has a fireplace and the living room a large wood stove. The upstairs rooms are heated from the wood stove downstairs. There is also a mobile electric stove. The wrought-iron table in front of the house has a marble tabletop that lies loose on it. Rather not move it. Behind the house under the tree is a large table with six wooden dining chairs.
Nature and surroundings
The mill is located in the hills. It is a wonderful hiking and biking area. The bird area the Miles Etangs is a half hour drive about. You can enjoy hiking in the area, for example in the Gorges de l'Anglin, or right outside the door. You can swim in the swimming lake of Chaillac, six kilometers away. In Tilly (four kilometers) there is a bowling alley. Bird lovers can go to the Milles Etangs, a half-hour drive away. There are beautiful medieval towns nearby: St Benoit de Sault (with nice walk around the water), Chauvigny (with falcon show in summer), and Angles sur Anglin (with beautiful ruin and prehistoric cave drawings). Especially go to the ruins of Crozant at the confluence of Creuse and Indre and have lunch in the panoramic restaurant there. Be sure to check if the ruin (admission two euros) is open in late season.
