From the nature house you walk within one minute into the vast Gaasterland woods, a perfect place to take a break and enjoy the many birds. Here you can enjoy hiking, biking and horseback riding. There are marked walks and also a gnome trail for the children. The IJsselmeer is also nearby, about three kilometers as the crow flies, and you can walk straight through the meadows to it in an hour. Here you can swim and kite surf or sit on a terrace at the Mirnser Klif. Also by the water is recreation area De Hege Gerzen, with a beach, miniature golf and a playground. A 10-minute walk from the cottage is the Wyldemark, a lake where you can sail, for example via the Luts to Balk. In the immediate vicinity you can rent a boat in several places. The cozy village Oudemirdum is within walking or cycling distance (500 meters) and there you will find a bakery, butcher, supermarket and several restaurants.
