Next to them is the bedroom with a queen-size bed and the luxurious bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink. Upstairs, you’ll find the mezzanine with a cozy, comfortable sitting area that can double as a guest bed if needed. With a sunny terrace on one side and a shaded terrace on the other, you’re always in the right spot. You’ll have your own swimming pool and, in complete privacy, a generous portion of the grounds—sheltered by trees and shrubs—including the vegetable garden and a veritable bamboo forest. Be sure to bring your binoculars, because from the couch you can watch the deer leaping at the edge of the forest.

You come here mainly for the peace and quiet. Relax under a tree, read, or paint in the leafy garden full of herbs and flowers, and—depending on the season—enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden. You can enjoy wonderful walks and bike rides along more than four hundred marked trails or simply chart your own course from Ducel. The Lot-et-Garonne, with its medieval bastides, little churches, and castles nestled in a Tuscan-like hilly landscape, has not yet been overrun by mass tourism. Of course, every little village has its own market, restaurant, and outdoor café, but don’t expect any cultural extravaganzas or sensational attractions here, although there are plenty of interesting and pleasant day trips to take in the immediate and wider surroundings.
