Welcome to À l’orée du bois, a cozy two-person cottage located in a small, quiet hamlet on the edge of the forest in the Haute-Vienne (Périgord Vert). Here, you can enjoy the peace and quiet, nature, and authentic French country life. The gîte is a detached cottage on our property. You’ll have your own private accommodations and can enjoy the lush green surroundings. We’re nearby if you have any questions, need tips, or require assistance during your stay. Wake up to birdsong, spot deer in the garden, take a walk through the surrounding forests, and end the day under a clear starry sky. A wonderful place for couples seeking relaxation, nature, tranquility, fresh air, and the charm of the French countryside. Just 15 minutes from the Dordogne, À l’orée du bois is an ideal base for exploring the region. Discover charming villages, local markets, hiking trails, and vast nature reserves, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet around the gîte.
Nature and surroundings
Right from the gîte, you can walk into the Marval forests, a beautiful, wooded area where you can fully enjoy the surroundings. Cyclists can also have a great time on the nearby Voie Verte, a car-free bike path that winds through the region’s green countryside. On warm days, the lakes of Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Mathieu offer plenty of opportunities to swim, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. The nearest supermarkets are in Cussac and Piégut-Pluviers, a charming little village where you’ll find a few restaurants, a bakery, a butcher, a nice café, and, of course, the lively weekly market on Wednesday mornings. Visit picturesque villages such as the historic village of Saint-Jean-de-Côle and Brantôme, the “Venice of the Périgord.” Limoges: The city of famous porcelain, museums, and a beautiful historic center. Oradour-sur-Glane: The impressive memorial village, an open-air museum commemorating World War II. Caves & natural wonders: Such as the Villars Caves.

Free cancellation within 7 days of your booking confirmation, provided the booking request was made more than 28 days before the start date. For bookings starting within 28 days, free cancellation applies within 24 hours. If you cancel within the specified period, you are entitled to a full refund of the booking amount.
After that, you will receive a partial refund of the trip cost and a 100% refund of the deposit:
• Up to 42 days before arrival: 70% refund
• 42–28 days before arrival: 40% refund
• 28 days through the day of arrival: 10% refund
• On the day of arrival or later: no refund
- Out of respect for nature: silence between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
- Minimum age of main booker: 20 years.
- Smoking is not allowed in this nature house.
- No fireworks are allowed at this Nature House.
- No parties or events are allowed.
- This nature house is not suitable for groups of young people, students and sports teams.
