The mountain farm (seter) was named after Janna Pedersen, a devout believer who lived here until 1970. She made a living by herding goats and sheep, supplemented by food from her vegetable garden and fish from Lake Holmtjønnet, located above the farm. In 2012, a second cousin renovated the house and named it Janna Stugua as a tribute to her great-aunt. My partner Trudeke and I (Wilbert) bought it in September 2025; we fell in love with the view and the peace and quiet right away! You’ll still find many old details dating back to Janna’s time, yet the house is now equipped with all modern conveniences (modern kitchen, washing machine, dishwasher, porch, fireplace, bathroom, 2 toilets, underfloor heating, TV, Wi-Fi). On the First floor, there are two bedrooms: one with a double bed and one with two single beds placed end-to-end. On the landing, there’s a single bed, a sleeper sofa, and a second TV with a sitting area. Shops are located in Fåvang, down in the valley (a 15-minute drive). In winter, you’ll need snow chains!
Nature and surroundings
The house has a FANTASTIC view of the Gudbrandsdal valley, through which the Losna River flows. The surrounding area is great for hiking. Cycling is also an option—it’s especially easy with an e-bike. A short drive away is the entrance to Norway’s oldest national park, Rondane, where you can enjoy countless one- or multi-day hikes. In Hafjell, you’ll find the Hunderfossen family adventure park (30 min) and a 9-hole golf course. In Ringebu, with its cozy outdoor cafes, you’ll find one of Norway’s most beautiful stave churches. Or let your mind wander along the Peer Gynt trails between Skeikampen and Gålå. During the winter season (from December through Easter), you can go cross-country skiing just a 5-minute drive away. Alpine skiing is available in Kvitfjell and Hafjell, about a 30-minute drive from Janna Stugua. Both areas have around 50 km of slopes and are suitable for beginners, yet also challenging for experienced skiers (the 3-km Olympia run, with an 840-meter drop). The outdoor life (friluftsliv) begins at Janna Stugua.
