Our wooden cabin stands in a small, sheltered grove, tucked away among the greenery and next to an old oak tree. From the bench, you can look out over rolling hills and fields. Inside, you’ll find only the essentials: a queen-size bed, a table, two chairs, a compact kitchen unit, a small gas stove, and a wood stove for heating and slow cooking. During colder periods, a basic supply of firewood is included; additional wood is available. There is no electricity or Wi-Fi in the cabin. You can charge small devices at the information desk. The amenities are intentionally basic: dry toilets and simple hot showers. In freezing weather, you’ll shower in the main building. Outside, there is a covered terrace. On-site, you can reserve a private sauna (€55) and a duo hot tub (€85). The hot tub is not available in freezing weather.
Nature and surroundings
You’ll be staying on a small, 1.7-hectare nature reserve, right on the French border, surrounded by meadows, an orchard, a food forest, a vineyard, and a natural swimming hole. The forest cabin is primarily a place for those who want to slow down, catch their breath, write, read, or take a short retreat. Couples are also welcome. Each season has its own atmosphere: spring greenery and birdsong, long summer days under the oak tree, fall colors and wind, or short winter days with fog over the fields and a fire in the wood stove. Here, you don’t have to do anything. Take a walk, read, write, doze off a bit, or just be present. The silence is that of a living agricultural landscape: wind, animals, and sometimes work in the fields. What I did find unfortunate was how crowded it was during the first few days. There were too many families with children on the grounds,
