Our guesthouse is located in the countryside near Zandhuizen, on the border between the municipalities of Weststellingwerf and Ooststellingwerf. You’ll be staying in the spacious and cozy front part of the farmhouse. We live in the back part of the house. Because the house has a large yard, you’ll enjoy plenty of privacy and feel as though you’re in a wonderfully peaceful setting. You can enjoy watching beautiful birds and listening to their songs, as well as watching squirrels feasting on hazelnuts and walnuts. Our guesthouse features a cozy living room with a view of the beautiful garden and pond. The spacious garden is home to large trees, including fruit trees, which provide plenty of shade on warm days. There’s a large hammock available, and there’s also a BBQ that you’re welcome to use. On the first floor, there are two spacious bedrooms. Downstairs near the kitchen, you’ll find the bathroom with a spacious shower and toilet. The kitchen is equipped with a 2-burner induction cooktop, a refrigerator, and a microwave.
Nature and surroundings
Zandhuizen is a village on an esdorp in the municipality of Weststellingwerf; with 350 residents, it can be called a small village. It is located northeast of the village of Noordwolde. The surrounding area is known for its beautiful hiking and biking trails. The Koepelbos forest with its deer enclosure is nearby, and the Stuttebos and Bekhofplas are just a stone’s throw away. There are several nature reserves within a short distance, such as Drents-Friese Wolde, Het Fochteloerveen, and the Doldersummerveld. The beautiful hiking trail Het Stellingenpad, with its 15 stages, has exactly 3 stages that pass through Zandhuizen or start in Zandhuizen! You’ll find all the amenities you need in the village of Noordwolde, less than 5 km away. Oldeberkoop is nearby, and Wolvega, Appelscha, Diever, Frederiksoord, Dwingeloo, and Gorredijk are also just a short drive away (less than 30 minutes by car). No mass tourism here, just beautiful nature and charming villages—perfect for a wonderfully relaxing (mini) vacation.
