A delightful stay: experience rustic chic in the French countryside at a centuries-old farmhouse on the edge of an enchanting primeval forest where a stream flows, rare orchids bloom, and medicinal plants grow everywhere. The lovely large garden with a cherry orchard overlooks the flower meadow where horses graze, and the little castle provides a beautiful backdrop. The Allier River, Europe’s last freely meandering river where wild salmon still swim, is within walking distance—we’ll let you in on our favorite secret beach! Or you can simply take a dip in the castle’s swimming pool. Besides the view, the peace, and the space, there is so much beauty to discover: stunning nature, historic towns, vineyards, markets with delicious food or flea markets. The farmhouse is a charming, spacious 4-person cottage where 2 cots can be added upon request. Marco is a craftsman specializing in traditional construction, and Muriel is a classical homeopath and goldsmith. We speak French, Dutch, English, and German.
Nature and surroundings
The Allier River, with its swimming beach, is within walking distance, and in addition to the views, peace, and open spaces, there is so much beauty to discover: stunning nature, historic towns, vineyards, and markets offering delicious food or vintage treasures. For active guests, there are walking, cycling, and mountain biking trails; you can go hiking, canoeing, rafting, swimming in the river, and horseback riding, and the Magny-Cours race track is just a short drive away. The authentic medieval flower village of Appremont-sur-Allier, with its beautiful castle gardens, is definitely worth a visit, as is the oldest oak forest in Europe, the Forest of Tronçais. Highly recommended: a wine tasting at one of Livry’s two wineries! We have a great bakery in Livry, and the nearest supermarket is in Saint-Pierre-le-Moutier, just a 10-minute drive away. There you can fill up on gas or charge your electric car with a fast charger. Moulins is a beautiful old town with a wonderful restaurant by the river: Le Bivouak.
