This nature house is a former worker's cottage in the three-roofed barn of a typical 1948 Groningen gentleman's farm. Once an upstairs room and kitchenette for the laborer with his wife and children who slept in bedsteads and a chicken coop where the bedroom is now, it has now turned into a lovely stay for a long weekend or longer. It now has a bright living room with a nice sitting area, a wood stove and small library. The kitchen is modern and it is good dining there. A cozy bedroom and spacious bathroom complete it. From all rooms you have a view of the large garden with an original stokehouse, the canal and the typical wide Groningen polder landscape.
Nature and surroundings
The cottage is located in the middle of the fields of farm Hiddingemeeden where potatoes, wheat, onions and shallots are mainly grown. Deer, pheasants and hares roam the fields and all kinds of birds sing their hearts out in the trees near the farmyard and the ditch where 'borgbloumkes' also grow. The flowery dike further on is a paradise for bees and other insects and the local beekeeper also benefits from all the nature and agriculture in the area. Within cycling distance you have the Menkemaborg, beautiful villages such as Warffum (including the Hoogeland Museum), the Berlage town hall in Usquert and the rustic Zielhoes at the tidal harbor Noordpolderzijl. A little further away, wierde villages such as Rottum and Ezinge (with the Wierdenmuseum) and Winsum has been voted the most beautiful village in the Netherlands. Appingedam has the hanging kitchens, Zoutkamp its harbor and the Hanseatic city of Groningen with the Martini Tower, the Groninger Museum and the Forum should not be missed.
