The surroundings of Retranchement are rich in nature, history and tranquility. From the apartment you can walk or cycle straight to the fortified village, where the earthen walls and old structures remind of the Eighty Years' War, with forts such as Oranje and Nassau. In addition, the Versche Polder and the Willem Leopold Polder are nearby: open landscapes with dikes, fields and ponds where you can wander endlessly. For nature lovers, Het Zwin is also a special destination. This border area of salt marshes and mud flats attracts countless birds and offers a different view every season. Within a short time you can reach the North Sea beach, where you can get a breath of fresh air, walk along the groynes or search for shells. In the mood for culture? The historic city of Bruges is just a 20-minute drive away and worth a visit. This region combines silence and space with variety, so every day can be different.
