This manor house, the Fáy Kúria, is located on the main street of the village, but surrounded by the tranquility of an old orchard. Once built as a hunting lodge over 200 years ago, it grew into a stately mansion of the noble Fáy family in the early 20th century. After a period of nationalization and decay, the house was completely restored over ten years ago, preserving its character and equipped with modern comforts.Through the stately staircase you enter the hall, with access to the dining room with fireplace and the fully equipped kitchen. From here you reach the living room and a bedroom with private bathroom. Upstairs you will find an open space and two spacious suites, each with private bathroom. In the garden, the outdoor kitchen, sauna and hot tub are under one roof. The house can accommodate up to nine people.
Nature and surroundings
The Cserehát nature reserve, which begins just about at Irota, is located on the south side of the Hungarian-Slovakian border and is bordered by the Sajó, Bódva and Hernád rivers. Compared to the rougher, Slovak side of the area, the Cserehát is rolling and covered in forest. Consequently, it has thriving wildlife. Visitors will see foxes, deer and roe deer. The mostly shy wild boars are less visible, but also present in large numbers. The area is popular with hikers, cyclists, anglers and hunters. The wide variety of bird species makes the Cserehát an ornithological destination par excellence. Water sports enthusiasts are referred to Lake Rakaca. This lake is about 40 minutes by car from Irota between the villages of Szalonna and Meszes. The lake is beautifully situated among the hills and offers a rich variety of flora and fauna. Although great for swimming, rowing, fishing and windsurfing, this natural area is remarkably quiet.
