Welcome, our biobased vacation home in the middle of the food forest of 't Hazelbos in Zelhem. This house was built according to the passive house principle: an airtight, vapor-permeable construction with clay stucco walls and recycled building materials. The result? A wonderful indoor climate in every season, without concessions to comfort or sustainability. This nature house has two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and Nespresso machine, and a bathroom with rain shower and heat recovery. The underfloor heating is powered by a heat pump. A washing machine is available for longer stays. From the living room you walk through the garden doors to your private terrace, overlooking the food forest. Here you don't have to choose between sustainable and comfortable, this nature house offers both. Pick an apple from the food forest, enjoy the silence of the Achterhoek, and sleep in a house that is as good for you as it is for the earth.
Nature and surroundings
The nature house is in the middle of the food forest of 't Hazelbos: one and a half acres of edible trees, shrubs and plants. Depending on the season, you pick apples, pears, berries, herbs or nuts right off the branch. In spring the fruit trees bloom, in summer you enjoy the lush greenery, in autumn you harvest what the forest gives you, and in winter you enjoy the silence. The property borders the scenic landscape of the Achterhoek, one of the quietest regions of the Netherlands. Wooded banks, meandering streams and agricultural land determine the picture. From 't Hazelbos you can walk and cycle through the outskirts of Zelhem. The Slangenburg, the Montferland and the IJssel are a short drive away. Doetinchem and Zutphen offer cozy downtowns with terraces and culture. But most guests come here precisely to not have to go anywhere. Just being, sitting outside, hearing the birds and seeing the stars at night, that is 't Hazelbos at its best.
