The cottage is named after a book by Henry Thoreau. He describes how he lived in a cottage in the middle of nature. This nature house has been sustainably remodeled with respect for nature. Those who stay here will find that this nature house is more than a place to sleep. It is an invitation to reconnect with yourself and the world around you. Days fill with hiking, reading, musing. Evenings end under the stars.The cottage has a cozy living room with panaroma views of the surrounding meadows. There is extensive kitchen with combination microwave, a large refrigerator with spacious freezer compartment and a dishwasher. A coffee maker, bialetti, caffetière and Senseo is available. Downstairs is a small bedroom for 2 with a box spring of 1.40 which can also be used as 2x 1 pers. The sauna is in your own garden, the hot tub is 100m from the house overlooking the meadow.
Nature and surroundings
Our garden is 1 hectare in size. There is a pond 60 m long where you can canoe. A trampoline and ping pong table and tennis pole that you can use. We have 2 sweet goats Bo and Bambi. Our chickens roam freely. Located amidst the unique scenery of the Frisian forests, with oak trees and alder bushes in a unique flora and fauna. Located between 2 national parks, Lauwersmeer and Alde Feanen. Near the UNESCO heritage Wadden coast. The idyllic wadden islands are very popular with our guests. Within half an hour you can reach the boat to Schiermonnikoog or Ameland.Historical cities nearby, such as Leeuwarden, Groningen and Dokkum.The kruidhof with museum and playground and the idyllic Veenklooster forest are 5 minutes from the nature house.Also 5 minutes away you will find the Twijzelermieden with unique bird vegetation. Also our own pond garden is an eldorado for bird watchers. With regularity you can see kingfishers.
