Nature house in Twijzel

The nature house is named after a book by H. Thoreau, in which he describes living in a cottage surrounded by nature. This nature house has been sustainably renovated with respect for nature. You’ll notice that this nature house is more than just a place to sleep. It’s an invitation to reconnect with yourself amidst nature. The cottage features a cozy living room with a panoramic view of the surrounding meadows. The kitchen is equipped with a combination microwave, a large refrigerator with a spacious freezer compartment, and a dishwasher. A coffee maker, Bialetti, French press, and Senseo are provided. Downstairs is a small bedroom for two with a 1.40 box spring that can also be used as two single beds. Upstairs is a spacious 11-meter-long loft bedroom for three people, with one 1.60 bed and one single bed.The sauna is located in your own garden, and the hot tub is 100 meters from the house, overlooking the meadow. The hot tub accommodates 2 people. It takes approximately 3 hours to heat up. For an additional fee of €10, we can heat it up for you.

Our garden is 1 hectare in size. There is a 60-meter-long pond where you can go canoeing. There’s also a trampoline, a ping-pong table, and a tennis post that you’re welcome to use. We have two sweet little goats, Bo and Bambi. Our chickens roam freely. Located in the heart of the unique “coulisse” landscape of the Frisian forests, with oak trees and alder hedges amidst a distinctive array of flora and fauna. Situated between two national parks: Lauwersmeer and the Alde Feanen. Near the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wadden Sea coast. The idyllic Wadden Islands are very popular with our guests. Within half an hour, you can catch a boat to Schiermonnikoog or Ameland. Historic cities nearby, such as Leeuwarden, Groningen, and Dokkum. The herb garden with its museum and playground, as well as the idyllic Veenklooster Forest, are just 5 minutes from the nature house. Also just 5 minutes away are the Twijzelermieden, featuring unique bird-friendly vegetation, an observation tower, and bird-watching huts. Our own pond garden is also a paradise for birdwatchers. You’ll regularly spot kingfishers there.
