Cozy and isolated wooden cottage on the island of Kuivahaapio, in the beautiful lake Saimaa. This simple and authentic cottage offers a rare chance to experience Finnish nature in its purest form. Surrounded by forest and lake, the setting is quiet, private and deeply restorative. The cottage accommodates up to 6 adults + 2 kids, ideal for families or small groups who enjoy nature together. Reaching the island is part of the experience. You drive along a peaceful dirt road, park on the mainland, and row the final metres to the island — a gentle transition from everyday life to island time. The cottage offers essential comfort: running water, electricity, an electric radiator in the bedroom, and a fireplace in the living area. Firewood is available, and guests may chop their own if they wish. A wood-heated sauna invites daily rituals after time outdoors. The cottage includes: living room, kitchen, bedroom, sauna (hot water +shower) and chemical toilet. Separate heated sleeping cottage.
Nature and surroundings
The cottage is located on Lake Saimaa, surrounded by forest and water. A private sandy beach belongs exclusively to the cottage. The atmosphere is quiet and undisturbed, offering space, silence and a close connection to nature. The surrounding lake offers excellent opportunities for fishing, swimming, rowing and wildlife observation. Forest path and open landscapes invite unstructured exploration, without schedules or crowds. The location is close to the natural parks of Linnansaari and Kolovesi, known for their pristine landscapes and rich biodiversity. Guests may encounter one of the lake’s most special inhabitants — the Saimaan norppa (Saimaa ringed seal). This endemic species lives only in Lake Saimaa and is particularly endangered, with about four hundred individuals left. Sometimes, what appears to be a moving rock in the water may in fact be one of these rare seals.
