The name "Middenblijk" refers to a bleachery - in old Turnhout the place where linen or flax was bleached with the pure water from the surrounding marshes. The word blijk literally means "bleaching meadow," and the addition midden indicates its location between other bleachers along Broekzijde and the Aa. Today, De Middenblijk is primarily a place of peace and charm. On the site, located at Broekzijde 42 in Turnhout, you can still find traces of the former activity, but also a new interpretation that respects the historical character.
