Nature house in Westernieland

The former workers’ home—built in 1904—has recently been completely modernized. This detached vacation home, which sleeps 3 + 2 people, features a spacious living room with a comfortable sitting area and a flat-screen TV. The open kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, an induction cooktop with a built-in range hood, a combination microwave, a dishwasher, a kettle, a coffee maker, and a Senseo machine. There is a shower with a sink and a separate toilet. Downstairs is a bedroom with a bunk bed (190 x 90 cm) and a large wardrobe. The charming upper floor, accessible via a steep staircase, has a headroom of approximately 168 cm beneath the characteristic rafters. This spacious floor features three single box-spring beds (200 × 90 cm). For added convenience, a washing machine is provided, and thanks to the underfloor heating, the house always feels wonderfully warm. The vacation home is surrounded by a spacious garden, with a small wooded area behind it that is entirely part of the property. The beds will be made for you upon arrival!

This nature house is located on the edge of the Linthorst Homanpolder, a vast polder north of the village of Westernieland (North Groningen). Near the cottage, a monument commemorates the workers who lost their lives during the land reclamation efforts of the 1930s. The seawall—just a few minutes’ walk away—is a popular route for hikers and cyclists and offers views of salt marshes, the countryside, and the Wadden Sea in the distance. The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its ever-changing natural landscape and beautiful skies. About 4 kilometers away lies De Klutenplas Nature Reserve, a brackish water area for birds. The Pieterpad, the Netherlands’ most famous long-distance hiking trail, begins in the neighboring village of Pieterburen. The house is located directly on the Proloog route and 10 kilometers from Winsum, the finish line of the first stage. In 2020, Winsum was named “the most beautiful village in the Netherlands.” A visit to Noordpolderzijl—the smallest seaport in the Netherlands—is also definitely worth it!
