Hidden between reeds, water and swamp forest lies the Skriuwersarkje: a floating, atmospheric chalet that for years served as a workplace for Frisian writers. As soon as you walk down the path through the marsh forest, you immediately notice the silence. Inside, you step into a simple but warm space, with a table by the window, a small seating area and a wide view over a cap hole. The little ark offers exactly what visitors are looking for: peace, inspiration and complete immersion in the landscape. The accommodation is deliberately kept simple. It is not about luxury, but about experience: a special place where you can read, write, think or simply completely unwind. Many guests call the little ark a unique experience - like living outside of time, in the middle of nature. Whether you come for silence, creativity or relaxation: the Skriuwersarkje is a place you won't soon forget.
Nature and surroundings
It Fryske Gea's Skriuwersarkje is located in the petholes near De Veenhoop, one of Fryslân's most characteristic nature reserves. The landscape consists of water, quaking fen, swamp forest and reed beds. You reach the arkje via a path among the reeds, where you can see and hear all kinds of birds along the way. In the vicinity are hiking trails, canoe routes and viewpoints over the petgaten. The silence here is still real silence: only birds, wind and water. The area is part of National Park De Alde Feanen, with plenty of opportunities for walking, boating and bird-watching. A place for peace and quiet, nature lovers and anyone who wants to get away from the daily hustle and bustle.
