Our nature house is a charming studio apartment for two, located in a former farm barn dating from 1924. The barn sits on a 2,300 m² lot, alongside our home. The studio measures 35 m², is heated by a wood stove, and features large French doors opening onto a high-ceilinged living room. To the right is a modern bathroom, and at the back is a small kitchen. A staircase next to the kitchen leads to the bedroom on the loft. The barn has been sustainably renovated using almost exclusively reused materials. Old floorboards were turned into wainscoting, a discarded staircase was given a new lease on life, and a large secondhand kitchen with a marble countertop was converted into a cozy kitchen. The (woodland) garden is an ecological oasis for birds and insects, featuring old pollarded willows, a weeping willow, and hidden seating spots. During the day, you’ll hear birdsong; in the evening, you can enjoy the peace and quiet, the sunset, and the deep darkness. Eleven chickens and two goats live on the property. Nature and surroundings
Kamperland is located on the western side of Noord-Beveland, between Lake Veere, Oosterschelde National Park, and the North Sea. Lake Veere and the Goudplaat are within cycling or walking distance and perfect for a lovely stroll. The Oosterschelde is a bit further away but is easily accessible by bike or car. Here you can hear curlews, oystercatchers, and geese calling. In winter, wigeons and goosanders are abundant. The North Sea, with the wide Banjaard Beach, the dunes, and the Veerse Gat Dam, is just a 15-minute drive away. Nice. Peaceful surroundings.
The stairs were very steep. You almost always bump your head at the top.
One chair was wobbly. We reported it. It was poorly made. The next one will be just as wobbly.
The lady almost chased us away when we arrived an hour early just to take a quick look around. She didn’t introduce herself at the time.
She was away for three days. We knew that in advance. Enough supplies had been set out for breakfast.
When she came back, she still hadn’t introduced herself. So we just did that for her.
Apparently, we were sitting on their patio chairs in the garden. Her husband had been taking care of things the past few days. When we asked if we could sit there, he said, “No problem. We zaten blijkbaar op hun zitje in de tuin. Haar man had de afgelopen dagen gezrgd. Toen wij vroegen of we daar mochten zitten. Niks aan de hand. Blijf lekker zitten. Toen zij weer terug was moesten we er per direct weg. Anders hadden zij geen privacy. Ook toen stelde ze zichzelf niet voor. Wisten wij veel. Meneer gaf wat anders aan. Zelfs bij weggaan op dag van vertrek haar niet gezien.
