In a special place at the very back of our yard you can come and spend the night in our Pipowagen. The wagon has a double raised bed of 140x210cm, a kitchenette with 2 hotplates and a refrigerator. All kitchen utensils, incl coffee, tea, salt and pepper and olive oil are provided. You have your own eco toilet and shower, in a separate adjacent cart. You can also take a nice cold shower outside! In winter you fire up the wood stove, in summer you open the doors and listen to the sounds of the many birds. You are in the middle of nature with beautiful views of meadows with wooded banks, you experience the weather on the spot. The sun rises on one side and visibly sets on the other. Would you like to come with 2 extra people? Then bring your own tent and sleeping equipment. There is plenty of room to stand by the Wagon in total privacy! Halfway across our yard is another Nature House, the Stable. Suitable to book both with a group or a large family.

Nature and surroundings

De Wagen is located in Donkerbroek in the most southeastern tip of Friesland. Groningen and Drenthe are just around the corner. The landscape is special: no endless meadows and lakes, but rather many woods and tree walls, interspersed with meadows. Surrounded by beautiful nature reserves where it is excellent walking or cycling. Lauswolt, Olterterp, Duurswouderheide, Fochteloerveen, National Park Drents-Friese Wold including Appelscha. The prison village Veenhuizen, brewery Maallust, a day of sauna in Boijl, the picturesque village Oldeberkoop. There are 2 excellent MTB routes and on the Tjonger you can enjoy supping. Who wants to rent a boat to go on the Frisian Lakes: Drachten offers it! And who wants to go to town: within half an hour you are in Leeuwarden or Groningen. A day trip to the islands.....that's not too far either!

I left after two nights because the stay was not sustainable for my dog and for me. In addition, despite prior promises that the sanitary car would be heated, it turned out that it was not heated. In the shower room it was about 0 degrees, similar to the outside temperature. Showering under these conditions was not comfortable or responsible for me. Landlord's response: We also experienced more noise from fireworks, which was the same nationwide. Wind and wind direction are also determining factors. The only thing we can do, and do every year, is to tell guests in advance what the previous years were like with fireworks during New Year's Eve.

A lot of fireworks were set off in the immediate area, which was clearly audible in the mobile homes.

With some possible adjustments to the electricity, which regularly goes on and off, it will be fine. Good for the dog, but not generally suitable for people over 70, there is a double bed available but in the height, where you have to come up with a small staircase, also the shower in the other shack has some adjustments, in winter no hot jet.

It was an adventure in itself, two evenings on Frisian land in Donkerbroek, tranquility all around, plenty of space and beautiful nature even in winter, for us it was suitable because our boomer went along the dog also had fun, the best was still the stoking of the wood stove where you had to gather wood.
Making coffee was difficult, but we solved that with Nescafe and hot water with the kettle. pot in French coffee brewing 1 time used took a little long. Friendly reception from the hostess nice friendly lady and neatly explained everything and helped us unload the car.

Lovely place. Private, in the middle of t green, sustainable appearance. Weekend with very bad weather, but t stay was a great adventure, light a fire, through storm and rain to t toilet, with boots through the mud. Fine place to relax. And very friendly hostess and gentleman. We go again when the sun shines!

What does “Fireworks-free” mean?
The host indicates that the area is firework-free. Firework-free means that no firework bangs can be heard in and around the accommodation. You might occasionally hear some noise or see some light from fireworks set off outside the immediate area. It is important that you agree with the landlord on what you can expect.
Selection of activities
After each stay, we invite our guests to rate the nature house, the surroundings, and specific activities. An activity is only shown at a nature house if it meets two conditions: at least 20 unique reviews have been given, and at least 60% of guests gave a score of ‘amazing’ (3/4) or ‘wow’ (4/4).
