In need of rest and relaxation? Or are you just looking for a beautiful environment to explore or write, for example? Near the Tjeukemeer in Friesland is our detached cottage. Without wifi or TV, so you can recharge your batteries with attention to yourself, each other and nature. Still online, your own hotspot works too. Slowly we are refurbishing Helios further and further. Reusing materials and pre-loved furniture. For example, the kitchen comes from Sneek, and the round metal table is an old cafe table from Midlum from our 89-year-old friend's Pake. Café Buitenlust no longer exists but the little table is now used in honor. On hot days the fan, rescued from the street in Paris 30 years ago, gives you fan-tastic cooling. The wonderfully large garden surrounding the cottage has several, nice places to sit. On the terrace in front or a sheltered spot behind. When the fine cottage is free, we like to stay there too.
Nature and surroundings
Helios is located in Rohel near Joure. Nearby you can enjoy swimming in the Tjeukjemeer or walking in the Haulsterbossen.Discover the NanneWiid, or the swamp area Het Easterskar, one of the many natural pearls of It Fryske Gea. Here you can walk through the mysterious swamp forest and enjoy the view from the bird-watching hut.River the Tjonger with on the other side Rottige Meente a peat extraction area from the 18th century, now a Natura2000 area with otters, bitterns and kingfishers. The Zuiderzeepad also runs along here.Fruit and vegetables nearby . If you are lucky, Jan's vegetable cart at the beginning of the path is filled with vegetables. Or else in the summer around the corner at the Belshof on the nursery road are crates of vegetables and jam. Eat at the Sustainable Eel Factory or get groceries the farm store of Boer Bart in Rotstergaast. The cities of Sneek and Leeuwarden a little further away but easy to drive and definitely worth a visit. Or go sailing!
