Our detached house is situated in a unique location in the Morvan Nature Park in Burgundy. It’s in a beautiful spot with panoramic views. There’s no traffic; you’ll find total peace, quiet, and darkness at night. The house was originally a farmhouse dating from around 1730. In early 2000, it was tastefully and completely renovated into a comfortable home, while preserving its original character, such as the authentic beamed ceiling. The interior is luxurious and features a keen sense of design. On the first floor, there is a very spacious bedroom. The house is surrounded by a private garden. There are two large terraces: one in the morning sun in the spacious front yard, and one in the evening sun in the backyard. From the back terrace, you can enjoy evening views of the hills with a beautiful red-orange sunset. There are four other houses along the small road leading to the house, with friendly and helpful neighbors. To ensure good communication, we prefer Dutch-speaking tenants.
Nature and surroundings
The immediate surroundings consist of a landscape of wooded hilltops and hedgerow-lined meadows with Charolais cows. There are many birds, and wildlife can be seen early in the morning. From the house, several short and longer hiking trails start, leading along farm paths, through the woods, past the Dragne—the fast-flowing little river in the valley—and past the village of Onlay. The charming town of Moulins Engilbert, with all its amenities—including a large supermarket, outdoor cafes, and restaurants—is 8 km away. A 20-minute drive away lies the highest mountain in the Morvan, Mont Beuvray, home to the Roman fortress of Bibracte. A hiking trail winds its way along the mountain, passing numerous archaeological sites. A modern museum is dedicated to this site. The nearby town of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains was already known to the Romans for its thermal baths. Later, it became a chic spa town—and remains so today—with the charm of bygone glory. The ancient Roman towns of Autun, Nevers, Vézelay, and La Charité-sur-Loire, rich in art and culture, are a 40- to 60-km drive away.
