Our detached house is situated in a unique location in the Morvan Nature Park in Burgundy. It’s in a beautiful location with panoramic views. There’s no traffic; you’ll find total peace, quiet, and darkness at night. The house was originally a farmhouse dating from around 1730. In early 2000, it was tastefully and completely renovated into a comfortable home, while preserving its original character, such as the authentic beamed ceiling. The walls are 60 cm thick, keeping the interior cool at all times. The interior is luxurious and has a keen sense of design. On the first floor is a very spacious bedroom. The house is surrounded by a secluded garden. There are two large terraces: one in the morning sun in the spacious front yard, and one in the evening sun in the backyard. From the back terrace, you can enjoy evening views of the hills with a beautiful red-orange sunset. Our house is located in a hamlet of five houses. To ensure good communication, we prefer Dutch-speaking tenants.
Nature and surroundings
The immediate surroundings consist of a landscape of wooded hilltops and hedgerow-lined pastures with Charolais cows. There are many birds, and wildlife can be seen early in the morning. From the house, several short and longer hiking trails start out along farm paths, through the woods, past the Dragne—the fast-flowing little river in the valley—and past the village of Onlay. The charming town of Moulins Engilbert, with all its amenities—including a large supermarket, outdoor cafes, and restaurants—is 8 km away. A 20-minute drive away is the highest mountain in the Morvan, Mont Beuvray, home to the Roman fortress of Bibracte. A hiking trail winds its way along the mountain past the many archaeological sites. A modern museum is dedicated to this site. The nearby town of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains was already known to the Romans for its thermal baths. Later, it became a chic spa town—and remains so today—with the charm of faded glory. The ancient Roman towns of Autun, Nevers, Vézelay, and La Charité-sur-Loire—rich in art and culture—are a 40- to 60-km drive away.
