We built our nature house in 2023 in the Scandinavian style. It’s located in the northwestern part of our property (>6,000 m²), surrounded by trees. There’s a peaceful garden in front of the porch where you can enjoy the silence, the birds, and—who knows—maybe even a visit from a badger or a roe deer. It’s a lovely spot to unwind, have a good conversation, or read a book. You can enjoy the view of the surrounding area from a bench at the edge of the property. You’ll have all the privacy you need. The cottage is fully equipped and runs on electricity generated by our solar panels. You can cook on a two-burner induction stove. Heating and cooling are provided by a split-system air conditioner. There is one bedroom downstairs with a double bed, which we can also convert into two separate beds. The loft offers space for meditation. A bed is also available there, but the loft is open and accessible only via a simple staircase.
Nature and surroundings
The nature house is located in a beautiful setting, with fields and forests within walking distance. From the garden, you can walk along the sandy path toward the (only!) hunebed in the province of Groningen. One kilometer further on lies the Noordlaarderbos, where you can enjoy a lovely walk. From there, you can easily walk or bike into Drenthe toward Zuidlaren and the Drentsche Aa National Park. On the eastern side of Noordlaren lies the polder, where you can spot meadow birds and the white-tailed eagle, among other wildlife. The Zuidlaardermeer is within walking distance. Rent a boat or go for a swim—it’s all possible there. Zuidlaren has a cozy atmosphere with great places to eat. The lively city of Groningen is 15 kilometers away and can even be reached by bike. The cottage was just as lovely as it looks in the photos! Fully equipped with all the amenities, including a meditation corner upstairs, and games and books—so you can actually leave your own entertainment at home. That makes packing a lot easier!
I didn’t end up walking through the maze, but it was beautifully laid out.
The owners are very warm and welcoming people, and I even got to enjoy some homemade jam, apple juice, and honey from their own bees.
