Welcome to this nature house in Spanga, in the middle of the enchanting nature reserve the Rottige Meenthe. Surrounded by reed fields, marsh forests and waterways, this is the perfect place for those looking for peace, nature and special bird species - including our permanent residents: the storks! Our nature house owes its name to the stork. Our nature house is comfortably furnished, with nice extras such as a barrel sauna, a cozy pallet stove and a sunshower for that little bit of extra luxury. The atmosphere inside is cozy and totally in keeping with the natural environment. Even if you are less mobile, the cottage is easily accessible - so really everyone can relax here. Be surprised by the silence, the space and the special flora and fauna - and come and stay at a place where nature sets the rhythm.
Nature and surroundings
You are staying at the edge of one of Friesland's best kept secrets: the Rottige Meenthe. This beautiful low moorland swamp area lies on the border of Friesland and Overijssel, and together with the Weerribben and the Wieden forms the largest contiguous marshland area of northwestern Europe. The Rottige Meenthe is characterized by extensive reed beds, quaking moors, peat holes and wooded banks - created by former peat extraction. Today it is a paradise for nature lovers, bird watchers and peace seekers. Hiking & biking: There are beautiful hiking and biking trails, including the famous Frisian Forest Trail and various junction routes. Sailing & canoeing From Ossenzijl or Oldemarkt you can take to the water. The area is particularly good to explore by canoe or whisper boat. Villages & culture: Visiting nature centers: including National Park Weerribben-Wieden near Ossenzijl. Villages & culture: including Oldemarkt, Blokzijl, Steenwijk or Pantropica in Luttelgeest.
