Nature and surroundings

Our B&B, De Friese Meren, is situated in a unique location, right on the famous Elfsteden Route and surrounded by some of Friesland’s most beautiful spots. Just a short distance away is the charming town of Sloten—the smallest town on the Elfsteden Route—with its canals, windmill, and fortifications. Lemmer, a lively town known for its water sports and historic Lemstersluis lock, is also nearby. In Balk, you can take a pleasant stroll along the Luts, a major waterway on the Elfstedentocht route. Between these villages lie the stunning lakes: the Slotermeer and the Tjeukemeer. Ideal for boating, swimming, or simply enjoying the waterfront. This combination of water, nature, and culture makes our area perfect for cyclists, hikers, and skating enthusiasts. The Elfstedenroute winds through the landscape like a historical thread, taking you through areas with an authentic Frisian atmosphere. At B&B de Friese Meren, you can experience both the tranquility of the countryside and the rich history of Friesland in a single stay.
