Welcome to our cottage, located in a small village right between Guise and Vervins. It is cozy and has all the comforts. The bedrooms have Auping beds. In front is a wooden terrace where you can have breakfast or lunch. At the back is a terrace where you can sit by the babbling brook, a "ruisseau" the French call it. You can mostly hear the birds in the trees. With luck, you'll spot squirrels or ducks bravely trying to get upstream. A little bridge takes you across the ruisseau to a slightly higher part of the garden. This section appears to be an avenue of trees beside, remnants of what was once a railroad. Behind it is another stretch of garden where the petanque court should one day be resurrected. There are numerous fruit trees on the property, of course you may have an apple, pear, plum or cherry for your own use in the harvest season. There is a stocked bookcase and puzzles and board games can be found in the house. There is also a folder ready with info about the area.
Nature and surroundings
Near the cottage and garden you will find many rural roads and the Axe Vert de Thiérache, ideal for comfortable cycling and walking. You will pass by the river l'Oise, bike under the poplars along the route... You will also find in the neighborhood several military cemeteries and other traces of war history. The region is also known for its many fortified churches and the Familistère in Guise. If you like to do sports, you will find what you are looking for: canoeing, swimming, ice skating, ... There is a good chance of meeting pheasants or deer! The surrounding villages are actually all idyllically situated, often by the water, along meadows or near the forest. You will stay in a quiet village with about 140 inhabitants, where people are very fond of peace and quiet. Yet it is also agricultural and sometimes you will hear or see a tractor passing by or you hear wood being cut.
