In late 2023, we found a house in this beautiful region where we love to spend time. We had long been looking for a place where we could retreat and enjoy vast forests, streams, birdsong, floral displays, butterflies and dragonflies.... we found that place here and would like to share it with you. The house was built in 2000 and is located in a quiet street on the outskirts of the village among other houses. It is a detached house on 900m2, the garden is screened (not completely) with a hedge and is now in the process of being further planted. The terrace has a large picnic table, barbecue, sunshade and parasol, there are also ordinary garden chairs. You can park two cars in the driveway. We have brought the house completely in order in terms of electricity and fire safety. The rental as a vacation home is also licensed by the municipality. There are new beds. There is 1 bathroom and 2 toilets, the kitchen is recent and fully equipped.
Nature and surroundings
The valley of the Viroin owes its name to the river that crosses this area, which rises in Dourbes at the confluence of two rivers, the Eau Noire and the Eau Blanche. The valley is located in the Viroin-Hermeton Natural Park, with an area of 48,000 hectares, in a somewhat unknown corner of the Belgian Ardennes, close to the French border. It offers a rich variety of reliefs and landscapes including the Calestienne. This is a set of limestone hills with a unique biodiversity (orchids, including the rare fly orchid, butterflies, lilies, many bird species). For hikers, cyclists and nature photographers, the Viroinval is a fantastic environment! In the quiet villages you will find cozy cafes and restaurants. There are also fun activities for children in the area. In the village of Olloy you will find two bakers, a butcher and grocer, a restaurant and café, a pharmacy. A 10-minute drive away there is an Okay.
