We have completely renovated the former pigsty of the farm in recent years and furnished it as a lodging; it will be rented out from 2025 to people who want to enjoy Almen and the Achterhoek. The lodge is part of our farm and has all the facilities you need for a longer stay. Light, air and space! With a view through the orchard on the Spitholter bridge over the river Berkel. The ideal place if you want to walk, cycle or enjoy reading a book. Our nature house is 75 m2 and has a spacious kitchen with a dining table. A living room with a sleeping area. And of course a private bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. See photos.
Nature and surroundings
There is plenty to do and experience in the area around Almen. You can follow the footpath along the river Berkel to Natuurmonumenten's Velhorst estate. Walk on the plank path from the Kienveen to the Grote Veld: there you will find heathlands, mountain pines and juniper bushes. This area is also home to the rare stonechat. Along the way you may encounter the sheep of Schaapskudde de Belhamel. Walk the Almens ommetje, or pull yourself across the Berkel by ferry to Staring's tea dome. Our nature house is located on the Berkel: you can swim in the Berkel itself or in the open-air Berkelbad in the village. Museum Staal on the village square tells the story of the Achterhoek poet Staring. In just under half an hour you cycle from Almen through the woods and along stately avenues to Zutphen: a Hanseatic city on the river Ijssel with a beautiful old city center. Museum More (modern realism) in Gorssel is also well worth a visit.

Checked in keyless.
Clean and spacious layout; everything is on one level, like a studio (the sleeping area isn’t separated).
Beautifully finished floors and walls.
Only underfloor heating; the temperature felt a bit on the cool side, but that wasn’t a problem at night, and we weren’t there much anyway.
We didn’t miss anything in terms of furnishings and amenities. The bed and shower were very comfortable. We left a suggestion to install a full-length mirror.
The friendly host regularly checks in via WhatsApp in a pleasant manner.
Clear instructions. Guests are asked to put trash in the bins, collect laundry, and vacuum. That was fine with us.

Duidelijke instructies. Er wordt gevraagd afval in containers te doen, wasgoed te verzamelen en te stofzuigen. Prima voor ons.
