Welcome to the beautiful nature house the Swallow. Under architecture built recreation house from the 70's. Glass all around and overlooking the garden. The cottage is freely situated in a small park. It lies on the edge of the Dark Sky area and through the backyard you can walk to the marina, the woods and the Lauwersmeer. In the garden you are sheltered and there are many birds. Even the kingfisher has been spotted.The house is 55m2 and modern in style.The living room has a spacious corner sofa, heating and a wood stove (bring your own wood).The kitchen is new and has an induction stove, fridge, freezer and dishwasher.There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed of 140 wide and the other has a sofa bed of 1.40 cm wide.There is a small bathroom with shower, sink and toilet.Please note: there is no TV. We like that: you can e.g. listen to music, play games and watch the wood stove ;-) There is wifi.
Nature and surroundings
The cottage is close to the Wadden Sea and is surrounded by nature reserve, very suitable for birdwatchers. The Wadden World Heritage Center (WEC) recently opened, with beautiful and informative films and animations about the history of this unique nature reserve and the seal sanctuary. Near the Wadden Sea you have several restaurants, you can take the boat to Schiermonnikoog, or walk on the pier. In the Dark Sky area you can watch stars and sometimes even the northern lights. Deer live there and many species of birds, and of course there is the marina. Also there a restaurant, with laundry and bike rental. 5 km away is "The Rug" there you can include a planetary tour and there is a restaurant. Zoutkamp and Dokkum are nice places to visit.

There was nothing to complain about with the cottage, and it was fully equipped. It was nicely decorated and had a comfortable couch. The bed was great, too. One set of sliding doors could be opened, but the other was locked, which was a bit of a shame, because it was a little farther away from the neighbors and it might have been nicer to have that one open so we could close the other one to block out the barking of the dog(s).
Op het huisje was niets aan te merken en van alle gemakken voorzien. Mooi ingericht en een relaxte bank. Het bed was ook prima. Er kon 1 schuifpui open, de andere zat op slot, wat een beetje jammer was, omdat deze wat meer bij de buren vandaan zat en wellicht prettiger was geweest deze open te hebben om de andere te kunnen sluiten tegen het geblaf van de hond(en).

Eentje sprong zelfs in het vijvertje…gelukkig reageerde mijn hond hier verder niet op. Ik vond het autoverkeer wel erg hoorbaar. Veel bos en wandelmogelijkheden, voor de hond wel voornamelijk aangelijnd. Helaas was er blauwalg in het water bij de strandjes geconstateerd, dus dat beperkte de opties ook een beetje. Al met al wel wat mooie wandelingen en fietstochtjes kunnen maken.
