Nature house in Gemmenich

It was a nice little cottage; it had everything you need for a week-long getaway. It had a bit of a “flower power” vibe with lots of paintings and figurines—a little too busy for my taste. There’s a huge selection of books to read, but I had my e-reader with me, so I didn’t really make use of them.
In the living room, in addition to a TV, there’s a projector so you can watch movies on the big screen if you have streaming apps on your phone.
The hostess was very welcoming and had even left a little treat for us when we arrived. She was also always quick to respond to any questions we had.
The cottage was clean, and you could easily let the breeze flow through on hot days. Some windows had screens, and there were also shade cloths. The kitchen was fully equipped; there was even a small toaster oven so you didn’t have to keep turning on the big oven.
We found the couch inside very comfortable, but it was so low that getting back up was quite a challenge.
It wasn’t a luxury home, but it was perfectly fine for us.

Het was een fijn huisje, alles was aanwezig wat je nodig hebt voor een weekje weg. Het was een beetje een flowerpowerhuisje met veel schilderijen en beeldjes, voor mij een beetje druk. Er is een enorme voorraad boeken om te lezen maar ik had een e-reader bij me en heb dus niet echt gebruik gemaakt daarvan.
In de huiskamer is er, naast een televisie, een beamer om eventueel films op het grote doek te bekijken als je streamingapps op je telefoon hebt.
De gastvrouw was heel gastvrij en had zelfs iets lekkers voor ons klaargezet toen we aankwamen. Voor vragen was ze ook altijd snel bereikbaar.
Het huisje was schoon en je kon het goed doortochten op de warme dagen. Op sommige ramen zaten horren en ook schaduwdoeken waren er. De keuken was compleet, er was zelfs een minioventje zodat je niet steeds de grote oven hoefde aan te zetten.
Wij vonden de bank binnen heerlijk liggen maar hij was zo laag dat er weer uit klimmen een hele opgave was.
Het was geen luxe huis maar prima voor ons.

The cottage is in a lovely, quiet spot. If you looked behind the cottage, you could see a grassy ridge that blended into a forest. From the cottage, you could walk up a hill with a beautiful view of the valley in front of it. Behind the cottage, dog walkers would occasionally pass by, but otherwise it was a wonderfully peaceful spot. There were plenty of spots to relax and enjoy a good book. In the evening, toads hopped around the house. When you left the park, you’d drive through the Voerstreek region with its beautiful rolling roads and hills. There were plenty of forests, but from Gemmenich there was also a bike path leading to Aachen or toward Liège. We cycled in both directions; many sections were car-free.

Het huisje is op een fijne rustige plek. Als je achter het huisje keek zag je een heuvelrug met gras die overliep in een bos. Vanaf het huisje kon je een heuvel op met een prachtig uitzicht over de vallei aan de voorkant. Achter het huisje liepen af en toe wat hondenbezitters langs maar verder was het een heerlijk rustige plek. Er waren genoeg chillplekken om heerlijk te lezen. In de avond hipten er padden rond het huis. Als je van het park af ging reed door de Voerstreek met prachtige glooiende wegen en heuvels. Er was veel bos maar vanuit Gemmenich was er ook een fietspad naar Aken of richting Luik. We zijn beide kanten op gefietst, veel stukken waren autovrij.

It took a little while to find the bathroom, but it was ingeniously hidden behind a sliding door. The entire cottage is laid out beautifully. Maybe there’s a bit too much art on the walls, but the peace and space of nature more than make up for it :) The large window overlooking the hills is a work of art in itself!

Het was even zoeken naar de badkamer, maar die zat ingenieus verborgen achter een schuifwand. Het hele huisje is op een knappe manier ingedeeld. Misschien een beetje veel kunst aan de muren, maar de rust en ruimte van de natuur compenseert dat ruim :) Het grote raam op de heuvels is al een kunstwerk op zich!

It was a really nice little cottage, fully equipped and beautifully located (great views and you can walk right into nature). It’s located in a small-scale vacation park; there are other cottages around it, but you hardly notice them. Emmy, the host, was super friendly and helpful. She had put some delicious snacks in the fridge for us, and everything was clean. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need: oil, vinegar, spices, coffee, tea, etc. You’re free to use everything and restock as needed. We definitely recommend this cottage to anyone who loves nature and peace and quiet.

Het was een heel leuk huisje, van alles voorzien en prachtig gelegen (mooi uitzicht en je loopt zo de natuur in). Het staat op een kleinschalig vakantiepark, er staan wel huisjes omheen, maar daar merk je bijna niets van. Emmy, de host was super aardig en behulpzaam. Ze had heerlijke hapjes voor ons in de koelkast klaargezet en alles was schoon. Er was van alles aanwezig in de keuken; olie, azijn, kruiden, koffie, thee etc. Je kunt alles gebruiken en aanvullen indien nodig. We raden het huisje zeker aan aan mensen die van natuur en rust houden.

Don't book too often.... we would love to come again.

Niet te vaak boeken.... we komen graag nog een keer.
