Stay in a Castle Cottage at Slangenburg Castle and go back in time! As soon as you enter the grounds via the bridge over the first moat you will see the historic castle. On either side of the forecourt are elongated buildings. In these buildings you will now find catering establishment The Coach House on the right and the Castle Houses on the left. These were originally used as carriage houses and horse stables. Later they were split into residential houses. From the Castle Houses, you look out onto the old traffic circle, where carriages used to be able to turn around and pass each other. At the back, you have an unobstructed view of the beautiful estate. Castle House 3: The Carriage Stables (max. 4 people) In the late nineteenth, early twentieth century, this was where the carriages were stored and maintenance was done. Where you use olive oil or cooking butter, the stable master used lard or tar. Guests must pay the tourist tax of €1.50 per person per night at the accommodation upon arrival.
Nature and surroundings
Slangenburg Castle, built around 1700 for nobleman Frederik Johan van Baer, breathes history with its impressive painted ceilings and historic furniture. During your stay in a castle cottage, you can take a guided tour of the castle during opening hours. The castle and its outbuildings are located on a natural and wooded estate, where several hiking trails start from the nearby parking lot. Opposite the castle houses is catering establishment Het Koetshuis, where you can enjoy a snack and a drink during opening hours. Breakfast can also be picked up or consumed here.
