Warm, cozy, and authentic—our nature house in Bartlehiem is an old family home full of character. The decor is eclectic: antiques, a touch of IKEA, and lots of glassware. Everything exudes atmosphere and tranquility. The house, with its lovely large garden, is all yours. Perfect for couples who appreciate the charm of a home with personality. The house has a lot of character—it has a dated bathroom, for example—so nothing is ultra-modern. We’re working on that, though of course not while it’s rented out. The roof was recently insulated. The garden invites you to wander, spot birds, sit back, and—when the time comes—pick up fallen apples. Baking supplies are provided, and the kitchen offers plenty of opportunities to cook together. The kitchen has a wood stove, perfect for lighting a cozy fire during the fall and winter months. A supply of firewood is ready and waiting. The house offers peace, space, and freedom—whether for a boat trip, a walk along the water, an afternoon in the garden, or an evening by the stove.
Nature and surroundings
The house is located along the Elfstedenroute. The Dokkumer Ee flows in front of the house, and behind it you can look out over vast meadows. During wet and cold months, be sure to bring your boots so you can walk freely both on and off the property. It’s a place to slow down, watch the sun rise and set, and quietly enjoy the garden, birds, water, and silence. From the front door, you can walk, bike, or boat right into the Frisian countryside. The rowboat is ready to go, and the oars are in the bucket. Swimming, rowing, or gazing out over the Ee feels like a little gift here. Roe deer are often spotted here, and birdwatchers can walk to Wiide Mar in just a few minutes. Cities like Leeuwarden and Dokkum, beautiful mounds, the Wadden Sea, Lauwersmeer, and Grutte Wielen are all accessible by car (or bike). Across the Ee, you’ll find the Grutte Pier brewery—just take the little boat. On our side is Anne-Famke’s place for ice cream, coffee, and tea. During the season, the ferry a little further down takes you to another spot, De Winze.
