The information about the cottage on natuurhuisje.nl doesn’t mention that cell phones are prohibited on the property and that you’re only allowed to use organic personal care products. The shampoo rules gradually became a bit clearer. The cell phone rules only became clear on day 3, when the owner first brought over a small pot of water to show that we had seriously contaminated the wastewater (the cottage isn’t connected to the sewer system and doesn’t have a septic tank either). He then showed up with a radiation meter that made an enormous racket and forced us to turn off our phones, threatening that if we didn’t, we’d have to leave in our little car. We were all so startled that we even considered leaving immediately. We talked it out, and the owner responded well to that. He also apologized. Unfortunately, trust comes on foot and leaves on horseback. It’s a shame. The owner means well, but it comes across badly—and unfortunately, that does matter.

In de informatie bij het huisje op natuurhuisje.nl staat niet dat er op het terrein een verbod is voor mobiele telefoons en dat je alleen biologische verzorgingsproducten mag gebruiken. De shampoo regels werden geleidelijk aan steeds wat duidelijker. De telefoonregels werden pas op dag 3 duidelijk toen de eigenaar eerst een pannetje water kwam brengen waaruit zou blijken dat we het afval water ernstig hadden vervuild (het huis is niet aangesloten op het riool en heeft ook geen septic tank) Vervolgens kwam hij met een stralingsmeter aanlopen die enorme herrie maakte en dwong ons om de telefoon uit te zetten en anders konden we met het autootje vertrekken. We waren allemaal zo geschrokken dat we zelf overwogen om direct te vertrekken. We hebben dit uitgepraat en daar reageerde de eigenaar goed op. Hij heeft ook excuses aangeboden. Helaas: vertrouwen komt te voet en gaat te paard. Jammer. De eigenaar bedoelt het goed, maar het komt er beroerd uit en helaas doet dat er wel toe.

Nature is beautiful; the air is buzzing with insects, swallows nest under the eaves, and pigeons live in the barn next door. The starry sky is breathtaking. There’s a stream within walking distance, and you can walk straight into the woods from the cottage.
The forced “phone detox” brought peace, but the way it was communicated actually caused anxiety. Since it wasn’t mentioned in the cottage description, I wasn’t prepared for it, and because of the blunt way they communicated, I still found myself on edge every time I used the phone to plan a route or look for a pool suitable for my daughter on crutches.

De natuur is prachtig het zoemt er van de insecten, er wonen zwaluwen onder de dakrand en duiven in de schuur ernaast. De sterrenhemel is prachtig. Er is een beek op loopafstand en je kunt vanuit het huisje direct het bos in lopen.
Het gedwongen telefoon dieet gaf rust, maar de manier waarop er over gecommuniceerd werd gaf juist onrust. Daardat het niet in de tekst bij het huisje staat was ik er niet op voorbereid en door de botte manier van communiceren zat ik toch elke keer met samengeknepen billen als ik de telefoon gebruikte om een route te plannen of een zwembad te zoeken dat geschikt was geschikt voor een dochter op krukken
