Nature house in Orschwihr

The "cottage" is very spacious and comfortable; everything you could need is provided, right down to a shoehorn and a toaster (which is especially nice with gluten-free bread). There’s also extensive information on hiking trails and day trips.
The chairs were comfortable thanks to the seat cushions.
The hosts’ hospitality was heartwarming. We were treated to mirabelle plums, figs, grapes, zucchini from the garden, homemade jam and cake, and the local specialty, “Kugelhopf”!
Our request to turn off the Wi-Fi at night (due to my sensitivity to radiation) was also no problem at all.

Het "huisje" is heel ruim en geriefelijk, in alles is voorzien, tot en met schoenlepel en broodrooster (extra fijn met glutenvrij brood). Verder ligt er uitgebreide documentatie voor wandeltochten en tripjes.
De stoelen zaten goed dankzij de stoelkussens.
De gastvrijheid van de verhuurders was hartverwarmend. We werden verwend met mirabellen, vijgen, druiven, courgettes uit de tuin, zelfgemaakte jam en taart, en de streekeigene "Kuegelhopf"!
Ook ons verzoek om de wifi 's nachts uit te zetten (vanwege mijn stralingsgevoeligheid) vormde geen enkel probleem.

The tranquility was “overwhelming”; every now and then, you could hear the silence. And at night, a very clear starry sky—no light pollution like we have here.
On one of the three terraces, you could always find a spot in the sun or in the shade, with a view of the vegetable garden and orchard.
After a 5-minute walk uphill, you’re already in the Vosges forest with plenty of hiking trails, and if you head the other way, in 6 minutes you’ll be at the foot of the rolling vineyards of Alsace—a truly unique spot!

De rust was "overweldigend", af en toe kon je de stilte horen. En 's nachts een heel heldere sterrenhemel, geen lichtvervuiling zoals bij ons.
Op één van de drie terrassen was altijd een plekje te vinden in de zon én in de schaduw, met uitzicht op de moestuin en boomgaard.
Na 5 minuten omhoog lopen sta je al in het bos van de Vogezen met veel wandelpaden, en de andere kant op sta je na 6 minuten aan de voet van de glooiende wijngaarden van de Elzas, een unieke plek!

The house was cozy and fully equipped. Access via a remote-controlled gate was excellent. The car is safely parked on the property.
The only real problem we encountered was with the chairs. They weren’t very comfortable for us; my wife developed lower back pain and I had pain in the backs of my knees. That was because the edges of the seats pressed into your legs.
On the plus side, the house offers three places to relax outdoors. It’s also nice that all the windows have electric roller shades. The first week of our stay coincided with a heat wave, with temperatures rising above 40°. It stayed warm even at night. Fortunately, we had a standing fan, and the owner provided us with another one.

Het huis was gezellig ingericht en van alles voorzien. De toegang via een op afstand te bedienen poort was uitstekend. De auto staat veilig op eigen terrein.
Het enige echte probleem dat wij ondervonden waren de stoelen. Deze waren voor ons niet erg prettig, mijn vrouw kreeg last van haar onderrug en ik van mijn knieholtes. Dat kwam omdat de randen van de zittingen in je benen drukken.
Daartegenover het pluspunt dat het huis drie plekken biedt om buiten te vertoeven. Ook fijn dat alle ramen voorzien zijn van electrisch bedienbare rolluiken. De eerste week van ons verblijf viel samen met een hittegolf met temperaturen tot boven de 40°. Ook 's nachts bleef het warm. Gelukkig hadden wij een staande ventilator en kregen er nog een bij van de eigenaar.

Very quiet location on the outskirts of the village. There is occasional noise from a neighboring business (tractors, machinery, etc.). There was also some noise from the square where the World Cup soccer matches were shown on big screens. But that was sporadic and, of course, only happens once every few years.

Zeer rustig gelegen aan de rand van het dorp. Wel af en toe wat geluid van een aangrenzend bedrijf (tractoren, machines e.d.). Ook wat lawaai vanaf het plein waar het WK voetbal werd uitgezonden op grote schermen. Maar dat was sporadisch en natuurlijk eens in de zoveel jaar.
