This gîte is a fully renovated 30 m² former barn with covered terrace, built with the closest possible natural materials. The local wood was sawn in the commune, the insulation is wood wool made in Epinal and Germany, the kitchen is from the Vosges, and the windows are Lorraine oak. Underfloor heating is on a dry hemp and wood fiber slab. Walls are rendered in lime, natural earth and natural paint, and a photovoltaic panel provides additional power on the roof. All furniture, accessories and tiles are second-hand. Comforters are new and locally made. Roof window in the mezzanine. The ladder to the mezzanine is removed for a 2-person rental. Wastewater is recycled in phytodepuration basins (reeds) and we are careful about the products we use in our house and the gîte. No wifi. Fresh drinking water!
Nature and surroundings
The gîte is located on the edge of a forest in one of the 80 hamlets of the commune. There are no direct neighbors. It's a quiet spot, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the countryside, whether as a couple or a family. Several hiking trails pass in front of the gîte, allowing you to discover the countryside, waterfalls and historic buildings. The gîte is on the Route des Chalots, with the village center 6 km away by car and 2.5 km on foot. We are located in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park. Our village, Le Val d'Ajol, is famous for its DeBuyer Groupe kitchenware factory and for its local produce: Andouille and Gandoyau du Val d'Ajol, smoked meats, munsters and farmhouse cheeses, local beers, bluets, cherries and Kirsch.Nearby are three remarkable towns: Fougerolles, the land of cherries, Plombières-les-Bains, a picturesque imperial town with its famous ice cream, and Remiremont, the town of the Chanoinesses.
