Welcome to our forest cottage, located near the medieval Hanseatic towns of Hattem (3 km), Zwolle (9 km), and Elburg (19 km). This very spacious vacation home measures 80 m² and is situated on our 6,000 m² property bordering the Veluwe. Nature is right at your doorstep here, with squirrels (scuttling across the roof), many species of butterflies and birds, and you might even hear a tawny owl at night. Surrounding the house are three private terraces where you can relax, with a cozy fire pit and hammocks among the trees. The forest house (max. 5 adults & 2 children) is built from recycled materials. The doors, kitchen, bathroom, etc., come from our demolished home further down the property. The interior is very sustainable yet luxuriously furnished with comfortable box-spring beds, a bean-to-cup espresso machine, and a well-stocked wine cabinet. Especially for children, there are high chairs, an in-ground trampoline, and a swing. And what child wouldn’t want to dream in a treehouse-style bunk bed (180 cm long) or a converted (never-used) horse stall?
Nature and surroundings
Walk down our little lane and you’ll find yourself in the Veluwe! The forest cottage is located just 100 meters from the Veluwe’s forests and heathlands. From here, you can hike and bike to your heart’s content (with plenty of beautiful bike routes) through the stunning natural landscape, home to woodpeckers, wild boars, roe deer, and red deer. Thanks to its location on the IJssel River—with its beaches and floodplains—and on the edge of the Veluwe, Hattem is a very charming little town. And there’s plenty to do and experience. There are good restaurants in various price ranges and cozy outdoor seating areas on the market square. The A3 chocolate shop and ice cream from Tutti Gelati are also a real treat. I enjoyed the peace and quiet of nature and saw lots of birds and other little creatures near the cottage.
