Lovely spacious former farmhouse. Very quiet location, in the middle of popular hiking area. The farmhouse is well insulated. In the heat of summer, wonderfully cool and in the cold crisp winter, nice and warm. The farm and the large stables (which we share with the barn owls), are on 1.3 acres of private land. There is much to explore. Beech hedges, pollarded willows, beech woods. A fine garden. All on its own property. Ideal for birdwatchers. Loyal guests on the property: greylag, black stork, tawny owl, barn owl, tits, finches, black and collared redstart, Orpheus mockingbird, stonechat, (small and large) spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker etc. etc. And of course the deer, hares and, if you're lucky, the domestic ermine. Out the door and you walk or bike through rolling scenery. On two sides is deciduous forest a few miles away. The road behind the house runs along the crest of the hill and offers beautiful skies and vistas.

Nature is the rugged and small-scale agricultural coulisse landscape interspersed with forest. At 18 km a swimming lake (Signy-le-Petit). Stores at 11 km (Hirson). Paradise for birdwatchers and other nature lovers. Numerous walks are possible in the neighborhood. Some more enjoyable than others. Historically, it is the region of the "églises fortifiées" and now that of the numerous brocantes. The cathedral in Laon is one of the oldest and, in our opinion, one of the most beautiful cathedrals there is. We find it more beautiful than the one in Reims (over an hour's drive from our home). Moving and not to be missed are Charles Eyck's frescoes in the little church of Jeantes (10 minutes away). The Pieta in black and white always makes a deep impression (the lighting works on coins so make sure you have a few 2 euro coins).
