This nature house is a farmhouse, situated on over 14 hectares of private land and part of a 350-hectare estate belonging to Montauto Castle, which has been owned by a family from Florence since the 12th century. The house dates partly from the 12th century and partly from the 18th century, and was thoroughly restored in the late 1990s while preserving its rustic and robust character. It is situated in an oasis of tranquility at an elevation of 550 meters, which makes for slightly cooler evenings in the summer, and is accessed via a 1,300-meter-long unpaved road with a few steep curves. Thanks to its unique layout, it is cozy and practical for both a small family and larger groups of people. The living area is approximately 770 m², with several large spaces on the ground floor that can be used for various purposes. Centrally located is the dining room, featuring a 6-meter-long table made from a chestnut tree from the forest, where guests can work or dine.
Nature and surroundings
The patio with a large table under the pergola at the front (facing southwest) offers an indescribably beautiful, sweeping view of more than 180 degrees of the surrounding area, with the hills of Umbria visible in the distance. In the evening, you can relax in the lounge chairs on the lawn and enjoy the dark, clear starry sky and the breathtaking silence, interrupted only by the sounds of wildlife (including wolves in the valley). In the corner of the garden is another terrace with a dining table and chairs, and there’s also a BBQ there. Next to the house is a vegetable garden measuring over 20 x 10 meters, which provides produce year-round. From the house, you can go for endless walks, hikes, and runs on the surrounding estate and the adjacent estate (the total nature reserve spans over 1,200 hectares), with Montauto Castle perched atop the hill—the very place where St. Francis of Assisi once walked to stay in the small chapel.

Free cancellation within 7 days of your booking confirmation, provided the booking request was made more than 28 days before the start date. For bookings starting within 28 days, free cancellation applies within 24 hours. If you cancel within the specified period, you are entitled to a full refund of the booking amount.
After that, you will receive a partial refund of the trip cost and a 100% refund of the deposit:
• Up to 42 days before arrival: 70% refund
• 42–28 days before arrival: 40% refund
• 28 days through the day of arrival: 10% refund
• On the day of arrival or later: no refund
A deposit of €500.00 applies. You will be refunded after check-out.
